Kindness #4

My grandma sometimes feels lonely and needs some company so every day I go down to see how she’s doing and make her talk a little bit. I communicate and make her express her feelings. This made me feel better because I like talking to my grandma because she understands me and also because it makes her feel included or have someone to talk to too. I chose to do this because I know it was right and to help my grandma.

Kindness #3

My sister came back from a hard day at school and sports. She was tired, had problems at school and also wasn’t in a very good mood. I tried my best to cheer her up and I did achieve something out of it. She was happier and started socializing more and got out of her bad mood. I don’t know if she realized that I cheered her up but she looked and probably felt way more happy than how she was before. I did this because it makes me happy seeing other people happy.

Kindness #2

Over my vacation, I did many things. We went swimming and snorkeling in so many different places. It was really busy. I and my sister were having fun until 7 playing around and swimming in the pool. Like every normal person, she got tired. She was really cold so we headed to the hot tub. We forgot to get the towels before and she was cold so I sacrificed myself to get the towels and come back up. As a sign of gratitude, my sister gave me her dessert. I chose this act of kindness because it was a good thing to do and not really difficult. It made me feel like a good person and also made my sister feel super happy and warm.

Kindness #1

When I was at home, I was waiting for my turn to play videogames. My sister wanted to play really badly to finish something hers so I skipped my turn. When I skipped my turn I gave my sister more time to do what she wanted to and I also waited for another one of my friends for their time to play. I was really patient at that time and made two people happy. I chose this act because it was at my favor but also because it was nice seeing my sister happy and also playing with a friend. It made me feel good and proud that I helped two people and my sister was really happy to be able to play for more time and my friend was impressed I waited for 1 hour just to play with them.

Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress

“Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress” is a wonderful book written by Christine Baldacchino and Illustrated by Isabelle Malenfant for ages. Morris is a different child that likes to cross-dress. He has a mother named Mora and loves to go to school on Mondays. He likes many things but his favorite is the dress up center. He likes the tangerine red dress that reminds him of tigers and his mom. People at school start picking on him. He ignores them. He then decides to stay at home Via a stomach ache. He reads a book with his cat Moo. He started feeling better and when he felt better he started drawing. The next day when he went to school they excluded him again so he built his own space ship and they were curious to see tigers so they went with him. He adapted to what everyone said and continued wearing his dress. This story, in my opinion, tells people not to judge someone because they are different. Just adapt to how they are different and continue.

One

“One” is a spectacular book written and Illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi for ages 8+. This story talked about how there were many dots of different colors. Blue was a small color that was friends with yellow, green and other colors. Blue was picked on by red and his friends consulted him but never confronted red. Red each day grew. He became bigger and the other colors were scared of him. Then, a number 1 that was lightly shaded came and made everyone understand that they each are important. They grew into numbers from one to six and then blue became six. One confronted the bully and made him mad. Red started puffing and getting agitated because he couldn’t obtain what he wanted to. Then red rolled away and became smaller and smaller. When he saw all the numbers play together, he got jealous and wanted to become part of them so he became a seven and joined them. Then they all started laughing in peace. In my opinion, this story means that one person, no matter how small can be a change or a difference. Overall, this story was displayed in a creative way to show an important message to little children and adults.

Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla

“Ivan: The Remarkable true story of the shopping mall gorilla” is a wonderful story written by Katherine Applegate and Illustrated by G. Brian Karas aimed for ages 10+. The story is about a gorilla family. They lived in a tropical forest in Africa and their type was called Western lowland gorillas. He learned many new things. Then before he could learn about humans, the little gorilla and another baby were stolen. They brought the gorillas all the way to Washington and the little gorillas traveled. Humans put clothes on them and started laughing. When they escaped and walked away, Burma died. He was left alone. He lived for three years in a house. He was put in a glass cage in a mall and spent his time watching tv and other things. He became a Silver Back. People then started protesting how Ivan was lonely. They then shipped him to a zoo in Atlanta and then Ivan went was brought into a grassy land filled with gorillas. That’s where the story ends. In my opinion, this story was good for children to understand the needs of animals. How animals can’t live on their own incaged away from their families. This story also taught me how cruel humans can be. Overall, this story was an enjoyable and inspiring story and I wish that these gorillas had a better life.

Nerdy Birdy Tweets

“Nerdy Birdy Tweets” is a funny book written by Aaron Reynolds and Illustrated by Matt Davies. This book is aimed for ages 9+. This book talks about how two birds (Nerdy Birdy and Vulture) are friends. They like playing with each other but they are different. Nerdy Birdy loves video games and hates dead food. Vulture loves dead food and hates video games. Despite them being different, they like playing together. They like Making fun of each other’s lunches, making silly faces and taking goofy pictures of each other. Nerdy Birdy really liked playing games so one day he decided to play a game where you tweeted. He spent hours tweeting and getting new friends. Slowly, he got from five to fifty to five hundred. He was happy but Vulture was standing there bored to death from watching him so he flew away. Finally, Nerdy realize that he went away so he goes looking for him. After a few hours, Vulture started tweeting to Nerdy Birdy and they spent hours playing games and tweeting. The next day, when they met up, Vulture saw that Nerdy Birdy tweeted a picture of him eating a dead animal as lunch and then everyone tweeted disgusting and gross. This made Vulture really mad and he asked Nerdy Birdy why he did that and Nerdy Birdy thought it was funny but Vulture didn’t like it and flew away. The next day, Nerdy Birdy tweeted to his tweetster friends and asked them advice for the problem. No one responded until after 3 hours and they said it was his problem and to bad for you. Nerdy Birdy realized that he had to solve it on his own so he went to find Vulture. He flew until he found him. He then said “I’m such a bird brain” because he realized what he did. Then, they forgive each other and started playing and even though they were different, they were still friends. The reason I liked this book and thought it was funny was because of its purpose. It was trying to show how social media can attract unnecessary attention and can hurt other people. Overall, this book was funny and had a clear meaning of how dangerous and hurtful social media could be.

Spoon

Today for our PB blog, we read a fantastic book called Spoon written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Scott Magoon. This book was for ages 5+. The story talked about how a spoon felt about himself. He was with his family at home like every day. He went to his Aunts and then back home. His mother came in after some time and noticed how blue he was. She asked what was wrong and he said that he felt bad of himself. He didn’t like that he was a spoon. His friend’s fork, knife, and chopstick were better than him. He thought that they had better features and could do better and cooler things. He doesn’t realize that his friends are talking about how spoon was lucky for all the things he could like measure and play on his own. In the end, spoon realizes how fortunate he is of being a spoon and he sleeps really well. In my opinion, the book Spoon was very funny and had a good lesson. The main point of this story was that no matter how you look and how you function, you should love yourself for what you are.

Alfred Nobel (The Man Behind the Peace Prize)

Today we read a book called Alfred Nobel Written by Kathy-Jo Wargin and Illustrated by Zachary Pullen. This book is aimed for the ages of 10+. The book talks about a man named Alfred Nobel and of his love of Science and Poetry. He experiments with Nitroglycerin and writes poem. He lived with his three brothers: Emil, Ludvig and Robert. They helped him with his experiments and find out new things. One day, when Emil was experimenting, he died in a explosion caused by a failure during his experiment. He killed himself and other five people. This troubled Alfred because he felt sad and lonely. One day when he woke up, the news said that Alfred Nobel died! They messed things up with his brother and him. In the end, Ludvig died of a Heart Attack. This made things only worse. In the end, Nobel dies, and then the city and town where he lived in decides to make an award for what he did. They call it the Nobel Award. It is honoured to people that succeed in different subjects such as chemistry, math and also Peace. In the end, Alfred’s purpose of trying to make Nitroglycerin safe was for the point of keeping people safe and preventing wars. In my opinion, this book was mostly non fiction. It explained who created dynamite and the process of how it affected the world. Also it made me understand how dangerous it is and that how easily it could hurt people. In my life, I heard about the Nobel Award once or twice and I wondered what it was. Now I know who inspired it and why it was made. Overall, this PB blog was one of the most interesting and I learned many things.
